Remastered Greatest Hits Collection Featuring Three Brand New Tracks To Be Released On Legacy Recordings

40 Trips Around The Sun World Tour Begins In Europe On February 11, 2018

Los Angeles, CA --- TOTO is pleased to announce a February 9th worldwide release date on Legacy Recordings (a division of Sony Music) for their brand new Greatest Hits package titled 40 Trips Around The Sun. The 17 track album features three previously unreleased recordings: “Spanish Sea” “Alone” and “Struck By Lightning” alongside newly remastered classic tracks worked on by Elliot Scheiner & Gavin Lurssen and his team. The core Toto members, Steve Lukather, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, Joseph Williams re-entered the studio earlier this year to work on this release.

While going through the Sony vaults, the band uncovered several unfinished tracks that featured both Jeff and Mike Porcaro, one of which is now “Spanish Sea.” “This track is originally from the Isolation sessions,” Steve Lukather commented. “It’s one that didn't make it and we had to re-write it including creating a new chorus. Thanks to modern tech we were able to play once again with not only our 20 something selves but with our dear brothers Jeff and Mike Porcaro reminding us just how deep their groove was. Bittersweet... Many stories, laughs and a few tears on this one. It’s classic Toto with an excellent solo and I kept my old 1985 melody solo Dave wanted me to do... Old meets new but since legendary pal Al Schmitt cut the tracks and Bob Clearmountain mixed...it sounds like it was done 2 weeks ago not 30 + years ago!”

All fans who pre-order the album beginning today will receive “Alone” as an instant grat track. “Alone is a brand new song,” Lukather remarked. “This one was written with just the four of us really writing together and no one else in the room with us. We wanted to start with an ‘up’ song in terms of groove for the album. The lyric is darker but we are older guys now ands have lived life. The good, bad and ugly... we have lived it all and in the end we are all alone anyway. The third new track on 40 Trips Around The Sun: “Struck By Lightning” began with David Paich. “I had the opening riff in my head for months,” Paich said. “Joe and the guys helped flesh this one out. I love the heavy arrangement and Luke’s solo on it is an all time great!”

Beginning on February 11th in Helsinki, the band will begin the first leg of their worldwide 40 Trips Around The Sun tour in support of their 40th anniversary. 36 shows in Europe have been announced to date. The tour will be the band’s most extensive run in years and is expected to hit the U.S. later in 2018. More shows will be announced shortly.

Mi aspettavo un disco di inediti sinceramente, però mi posso accontentare se i nuovi brani sono a livello di Toto XIV, che ascolto ancora spesso e con grande piacere.
Alone in realtà mi pare una canzone forse troppo sempliciotta e creata velocemente, però è godibile. Ma in questo brano chi suona la batteria? la "nuova" formazione con Shannon Forest o anche qui ci sono le parti dei due Porcaro?

 

Dal titolo che sapeva già di best of invece me lo aspettavo nonostante avessero detto di avere canzoni nuove. Su facebook ad un fan non proprio felice della cosa han risposto così:

No one is ever happy. This is a record company choice. There ARE 10 songs you guys have never heard ! They will be out but when we resigned there were stipulations. It is FAR from Past to present ! Elliot Scheiner re-Mastered it all with us and Gavin Lurssen and his team track as well. The first 3 albums sound remixed they came out so well.. all the top and bottom and Steve Porcaro's parts ythat seemed buried are alll there now... its really cool... ... its not just a cheap money grab and unfortunately ' best of's ' are one of the few things that SELL! Not everyone is a die hard fan. AND once you are with major labels THEY have a say. Sorry you or anyone else is disappointed or upset. Considering whats on the news these days this is hardly life changing... this is a refreshing record overalll with 3 new songs we are proud of and are alll very different from each other with different singers and we ALL sing on this stuff, including a lead Vocal from Steve Porcaro too.

Praticamente la prima cosa che è interessata alla nuova etichetta è stata avere il proprio best of, della nuova musica non gliene frega niente, pure loro però ai concerti alla fine fan sempre le solite canzoni.

 

Purtroppo pure dal vivo hanno una buona parte della scaletta imposta dalla casa discografica.
Sapessi Luke quanto odia certi pezzi...

 

Sul serio? Questa mi mancava.
Mai capito perchè fanno cosi raramente pezzi amati dai fan e richiesti.
Io sono a sperare una scaletta con brani meno suonati per il tour 2018, Mushanga sarebbe il massimo, The Road Goes On la vorrei ancora dentro

 

Eh sì, una volta diceva in un'intervista che certe canzoni le ha sempre odiate ma purtroppo casa discografica e chi promuove il tour impone "hold the line", "Africa", "Rosanna" e "Georgy Porgy"

 

Be' ma quei quattro pezzi sono dei classiconi tra i più conosciuti della band.
Praticamente impensabile non suonarli.
Devo dire che in ogni concerto visto hanno sempre tirato fuori qualche chicca dal passato, in particolare nel 2013 con Goin' home, St George and the dragon, 99, White sister, Hydra, It' a feeling.
Mi aspetto qualche rarita' anche quest' anno, visto che e' un tour che ripercorre tutta la carriera

 

A me sembra strano che ogni etichetta su cui passano li obbligi alle solite canzoni, sono abbastanza stupidi se non lo mettono per iscritto sul contratto e si fanno fregare ogni volta.

 

Io credo che qualunque gruppo odi i classiconi, dopo 20 anni o più che li suoni, però è ovvio che devono farli, non per contratto, ma per logica........i fan vogliono anche quelli i Toto senza quelle 4 non sono i Toto......

Leggo, comunque, che è un pezzo risalente all'epoca di Isolation e poi riarrangiato.
Strano perché non ha quell'atmosfera cupa di quell'album.
Pezzo bruttino, comunque.

 

beh è un pezzo 100% Toto, non c'è dubbio.
Pezzo curioso, sembra più risalente all'epoca "Fahrenheith" o "Seventh one" comunque non mi dispiace, c'è più Toto in sto pezzo che nell'ultimo disco in studio.
