The Damned: annunciato “Not Like Everybody Else”, un nuovo album di cover in tributo all’ex-chitarrista Brian James

I THE DAMNED annunciano l’uscita di “Not Like Everybody Else”, un album di cover profondamente personale e celebrativo, dedicato alla memoria di Brian James, il leggendario chitarrista fondatore della band, scomparso il 6 marzo 2025. Registrato in cinque giorni di emozioni e fuoco creativo ai Revolver Studio di Los Angeles, l’album vede i Damned, Dave Vanian alla voce, Captain Sensible alla chitarra, Rat Scabies alla batteria, Paul Gray al basso e affiancati dal tastierista di lunga data Monty Oxymoron, ricollegarsi all’energia grezza che ha dato inizio a tutto. “Not Like Everybody Else” segna la prima volta in 40 anni che Rat Scabies torna in studio con la band.
Con brani come “There’s A Ghost In My House” di R. Dean Taylor, “See Emily Play” dei Pink Floyd e “When I Was Young” degli Animals e il brano di chiusura “The Last Time” dei Rolling Stones, con la partecipazione dello stesso Brian James, tratta dalla sua ultima esibizione dal vivo con i Damned all’Hammersmith e amorevolmente remixata per questa pubblicazione.
Il primo singolo, “There’s A Ghost In My House”, reimmagina il classico di R. Dean Taylor con l’inconfondibile energia e il fascino oscuro dei The Damned. Guidato dalla chitarra incalzante di Captain Sensible e dalla voce atmosferica di Dave Vanian, il brano fonde perfettamente lo spirito soul del Nord e la spavalderia del rock gotico. È sia un cenno all’amore di Brian James per la potenza cruda e melodica, sia un promemoria del dono dei Damned di trasformare canzoni in qualcosa di completamente proprio. Il singolo “There’s A Ghost In My House”, accompagnato da un video musicale diretto da Gilbert Trejo e girato durante il recente tour della band negli Stati Uniti sarà pubblicato il 30 ottobre assieme al leggendario show al CBGBs Festival inaugurale di Brooklyn, New York.

To celebrate the album, The Damned will play one-off covers show at Albert Hall, Manchester on 28th January 2026 performing songs from “Not Like Everybody Else” alongside fan-favourite covers that have marked their career. It will be an unforgettable night honouring Brian James and the band’s shared history.
Fans who order the album through the Official Album Store starting 29th October will receive early access to release show tickets. In addition, three exclusive 7” vinyl singles featuring previously unreleased B-sides will be available for pre-sale in the store.
Set to coincide with The Damned’s 50th anniversary celebrations, “Not Like Everybody Else” is a heartfelt homage, and a testament to the enduring spirit of one of punk’s most pioneering bands.
50 years of The Damned also means 50 years of punk, with the explosion of 1976 hitting a half century. The band jump started the revolution, releasing the first UK punk single in “New Rose” and album “Damned, Damned, Damned”. Brian James wrote that debut single and was lead songwriter on the album. He left the group after the release of their second album, “Music For Pleasure” in 1977.
The band earned an ever-expanding fan base fueled by legendary live shows, while their dark lyrics and Dave Vanian’s rich baritone vocals catapulted them to the forefront of the Goth-Rock genre.
The Damned have announced a special 50th anniversary show at OVO Arena Wembley on Saturday 11th April 2026, marking five decades since the band first exploded onto the scene as one of the founders of British punk rock. The milestone celebration will also feature special guests The Loveless featuring Marc Almond, Peter Hook And The Light and The Courettes.
