Rimanendo in Canada siamo giunti al momento tanto atteso. I mitici The Agonist stanno per entrare in scena e i fan si esaltano solo nel veder i musicisti preparare la strumentazione; ma della vocalist ancora nessuna traccia. Durante l’attesa dalla platea partono i cori di rito “The Agonist, The Agonist, ...” finché le luci si spengono, la band prende posizione, l’arena rimbomba di urla che sfociano in un boato alla vista dell’avvenente Alissa White-Gluz. In questo tour promuovono la loro terza fatica “Prisoners”, irrompendo con la prima traccia “You’re Coming With Me”, ove un muro di suono devastante investe i fan. Danni Marino e Pascal Jobin suonano riff massicci, le dita di Chris Kells fanno vibrare il basso irrobustendo il sound, Simon McKay è una vera macchina, viaggia sul doppio pedale a manetta tormentando piatti e pelli. Anch’essi appartengono al filone melodic death metal e metalcore, ma molto più potente e strutturato a livello compositivo. A prescindere dalla bravura e preparazione tecnica, la scena è dominata da Alissa, che tiene in pugno la folla imponendosi con un growl che mai ci si aspetterebbe da una donna così minuta; ancora più sorprendente è la sua versatilità, infatti alterna growl e voce pulita con estrema facilità. Il pubblico è talmente ammaliato che addirittura non poga. Peccato che l’interazione della frontman sia minima, poiché si limita a ringraziare alla fine di ogni pezzo mentre per il resto canta assumendo pose composte, trasmettendo una certa freddezza. Il repertorio è concentrato soprattutto sul nuovo album, da cui traggono “Panophobia”, “Predator And Prayer”, “The Escape” e altre. Non mancano i cavalli di battaglia come “Thank You, Pain” e “The Tempest”, fino alla conclusiva “Business Suits And Combat Boots”, dove la band dopo vari saluti e ringraziamenti, ricambiati con urla ed applausi da parte del pubblico entusiasta, si ritira definitivamente nel backstage lasciando i fan senza il tanto sperato e acclamato encore. Senza dubbio è stata una performance di forte impatto e di alto livello tecnico, ma un po’ più di comunicazione con il pubblico avrebbe fatto male. In ogni caso i The Agonist hanno lasciato nell’arena un’impronta profonda.
